Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has countered the recent alerts issued by U.S. President Donald Trump, asserting that the most formidable military can indeed experience serious setbacks.
While speaking in Tehran on Tuesday, Khamenei criticized Trump’s frequent assertions regarding the might of the U.S. forces. As reported by Iranian state media, he remarked that "the strongest military in the world may sometimes be slapped so hard it cannot get up," emphasizing that Washington cannot dismantle the Islamic Republic.
He additionally stated that Iran is equipped with armaments capable of targeting U.S. aircraft carriers that have been deployed to the Middle East.
"They claim they have dispatched an aircraft carrier toward Iran. While an aircraft carrier is a significant asset, it is even more formidable to possess the means to send it to the ocean floor," he declared.
Khamenei's statements were made as Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, commenced indirect talks with the United States in Geneva.
These comments arise in the context of a notable increase in U.S. military presence in the area prior to the discussions. Recently, Trump has cautioned that Iran would encounter "very steep" repercussions should it fail to reach an agreement. However, Tehran has continued to assert that it will not accept threats during negotiations and has pledged a strong response to any attempted aggression.
