Troops from the Joint Task Force (North East) have successfully killed a minimum of 20 members of the Boko Haram and ISWAP factions, which included Abu Yusu, a commander known as the Munzir of Dursula in Yobe State's Goniri Gujba Local Government Area.

The operation unfolded through a series of raids targeting the Goniri community, commencing late on the night of Monday, March 9, 2026, and extending into the early hours of Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

According to a statement from Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of OPHK, the terrorists aimed at military outposts within Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK).

Uba mentioned that troops effectively countered the terrorists' organized attempts, which involved assaults from both Goniri village and the Ngamdu junction direction as they sought to encircle military positions.

He also acknowledged that some soldiers were injured during the confrontation but reported they were evacuated promptly and are currently in stable condition.

“The vigilant troops acted swiftly, employing superior firepower and strategic tactics, while coordinating their defense as reinforcements and aerial support were dispatched,” Uba remarked. The militants were overwhelmed and forced to retreat, suffering heavy losses, including that of a senior commander.

“In the aftermath of the clash, soldiers retrieved numerous bodies, weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other gear abandoned by the fleeing terrorists. Follow-up operations in the Timbuktu Triangle, particularly around Gwaigomari, led to the identification of further terrorist casualties,” he added.

Lt. Col. Uba reassured that the area remains firmly under military control, with ground and air forces continuing aggressive follow-up operations in neighboring communities to locate any remaining terrorists.

He stated, “Operation HADIN KAI remains resolved and dedicated to completely eradicating terrorism and restoring lasting peace and security throughout the North-East. The Military High Command commended the troops for their bravery and resilience and urged them to maintain their operational momentum.
