This decision was formally communicated in a statement released by Barrister Bello Fanini, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, which was shared with the media on Thursday in Dutse, the capital city of Jigawa State.

The pardon action was reportedly in accordance with the recommendations put forth by the Jigawa State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, aligning with Section 5(1) of the relevant legal framework.

The inmates receiving pardons include Ibrahim Adamu Isa, Sa’idu Umar, Adamu Musa, Habibu Musa, Yusuf Ahmed, Shu’aibu Adamu, Abdullahi Ya’u, Yahaya Jana’u, Abdul Hamisu, Garba Miko, Salisu Isa, and Aliyu Ibrahim.

Barrister Fanini emphasized that this act highlights the government's dedication to nurturing goodwill and advancing peace.

He remarked, “This act of mercy reflects our government’s dedication to reconciliation and reintegration.”

He encouraged the nurtured individuals to uphold good conduct and avoid behaviors that could draw them back into conflict with the legal system.

“We expect them to reciprocate this gesture by being law-abiding citizens,” he stated.

Fanini further described the pardon’s intent as promoting reconciliation and reintegration, expressing optimism that the pardoned individuals will contribute positively to their communities.

He also remarked that the state government is committed to supporting the reintegration of these individuals, including assistance for their resettlement efforts.

The commissioner appealed to the public to accept and assist the reintegrated inmates in their return to the community.

“We urge the community to welcome them and support their reintegration,” he concluded.
