The Jigawa State Police Command has announced the retrieval of 7,096 illicit substances, alongside various stolen items and damaged state property during a sequence of planned actions throughout the region.
SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the spokesperson for the command, indicated that the recovered items included a motorcycle, three blocks of cannabis, 13 animals, 39 yards of shadda materials, three sewing machines, a solar battery, a split air conditioner, and significant amounts of vandalized armoured cable wires.
He added that these operations resulted in the detention of individuals suspected of armed robbery, drug trafficking, vandalism, burglary, and cattle theft in different areas of the state.
Among the captured individuals was a 30-year-old suspect named Sulaiman Usman, who was apprehended in Majiyawa village with a motorcycle that had blood stains and an iron rod.
Investigations revealed that he reportedly attacked a commercial motorcyclist in Bauchi State prior to fleeing with the motorcycle.
The police public relations officer noted that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse.
Additionally, the police made arrests of seven individuals suspected of drug trafficking across the local governments of Dutse, Miga, Jahun, Birnin Kudu, and Kafin Hausa, and seized quantities of cannabis and thousands of illicit drugs.
In Hadejia, authorities arrested suspects connected to shop breaking, recovering shadda materials and sewing machines. In Kazaure, a suspect involved in burglary was found with a solar battery and a split air conditioner believed to be stolen from a government facility.
Two individuals suspected of vandalism were arrested in Gwaram and Taura with large amounts of armoured cables, while five others were detained in Maigatari, Sule Tankarkar, and Hadejia over alleged livestock theft.
A total of 13 stolen animals have been recovered and will be returned to their rightful owners.
Commissioner of Police, Dahiru Muhammad, praised the officers for their efforts and professionalism and encouraged them to maintain the momentum.
He urged community members to cooperate with the police by providing actionable intelligence, emphasizing that security is a collective duty.
The police command promised that all suspects will face charges in court following the conclusion of investigations.
