Regulatory authorities in Kano State have confiscated 5,964 bottles of expired soft drinks during a raid at the commercial Singer Market, averting potential health hazards for local consumers.

Operatives of the Kano State Consumer Protection Council successfully intercepted and removed 5,964 bottles of expired soft drinks from circulation following an enforcement sweep at the prominent Singer Market in Kano State. The decisive intervention, executed recently, was prompted by actionable intelligence regarding a merchant allegedly stockpiling massive volumes of beverages that had long exceeded their expiration dates with the intent of releasing them into the retail chain.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, enforcement officers deployed to the commercial hub to authenticate the report and shield the buying public from potential health hazards. Alhaji Auwalu A. Muhammad, who serves as the Director of the agency's Enforcement and Removal of Substandard Products Department, confirmed that the operation aligns strictly with the council's core mandate to protect citizens.

Why was the operation carried out?

The crackdown was initiated specifically to combat the circulation of unwholesome consumables within major trading centres across the state. Regulatory bodies continually monitor commercial districts to ensure adherence to safety standards, particularly concerning perishable goods and beverages.

Speaking on the development, Alhaji Auwalu A. Muhammad maintained that the council would continue to execute its responsibilities impartially and in accordance with extant laws. "The council will continue to discharge its duties in line with the law, without favouring anyone," he stated.

What should consumers and traders do?

In the wake of the operation, the agency renewed its appeal to residents and market stakeholders to maintain high levels of vigilance. Authorities urged the public to promptly share credible intelligence regarding suspicious or expired merchandise, emphasizing that community cooperation remains vital in preventing unsafe commodities from infiltrating local markets.
