Police in Kano State have arrested a 25-year-old wanted criminal known as Umar Usman, alias Ta'ambo, who has been terrorizing residents of the Kano metropolis through organized thuggery and mobile phone robberies.

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Kano State have successfully apprehended a 25-year-old suspected gang leader, Umar Usman, popularly known as 'Ta'ambo', who has been masterminding violent street attacks and smartphone thefts within the Kano metropolis.

This development was disclosed in an official statement released on Thursday by the command's Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, detailing that the arrest was executed by officers stationed at the Zango Police Division acting on actionable intelligence.

According to the police, the suspect specialized in orchestrating thuggery and phone snatching syndicates around Rimin Kebe, the Ramin Research area, and the vicinity of Galula Hospital, leaving local communities distressed and disrupting public order. Authorities also noted that the suspect had previously assaulted law enforcement personnel on duty, inflicting varying degrees of injury.

What led to the arrest of the suspect?

The police command had earlier declared the individual wanted following a surge in public petitions and intelligence reports tying him to criminal networks across the metropolis. Community stakeholders and residents have since lauded the security agency's intervention, expressing hope that the operation will restore lasting peace to the affected neighborhoods.

Meanwhile, the suspect remains in police custody where comprehensive interrogations are ongoing, after which he will be arraigned before a court of law. Law enforcement agents are also tracking down remaining members of the criminal syndicate to recover weapons and looted items.

Commending the tactical squad for their diligence, the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, praised the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism. He further urged citizens to maintain a strong partnership with security agencies by supplying vital information to help purge Kano of violent crimes.
