The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chapter in Kebbi State has officially called upon the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to release status updates concerning two prominent graft cases linked to the state. This demand for transparency was detailed in formal inquiries dispatched to the anti-corruption agency.
According to a public address issued on Sunday by Bello Abdullahi, the Director of Strategic Communications for the party's Kebbi State Campaign Council, formal missives were delivered to the office of the ICPC chairman on September 14 and October 8, 2026. The communications sought official clarity regarding these legal matters as well as broader anti-graft initiatives within the region, though the commission has reportedly failed to acknowledge or reply to either communication.
What are the specific cases highlighted by the party?
The political organization is pressing for distinct updates on a N54 million contract fraud and abuse of office inquiry that targeted two former administrators of Sakaba Local Government Area, namely Abubakar Bawa Makuku and Ahmed Abdullahi Fakai.
While the ICPC publicly declared on October 10, 2025, that both former public servants had secured convictions, the ADC is querying whether the financial sanctions and compensation mandates issued by the judiciary have been fully satisfied, alongside inquiries into whether any embezzled funds were successfully recovered for the council.
Additionally, the campaign council requested a comprehensive status report regarding the ongoing legal proceedings involving former Kebbi State Governor, Saidu Usman Nasamu Dakingari. The former state chief executive was initially docked by the ICPC back in October 2018 over accusations involving the alleged diversion of N1.094 billion in public funds. The party wants the commission to explicitly state whether the matter has reached a final judicial conclusion or remains active in court.
What did the party say about institutional accountability?
"We are asking for basic institutional accountability: what investigations were undertaken, what became of them, what outcomes were achieved and what remains unresolved, to the extent that such information may lawfully be disclosed," the official statement emphasized.
Beyond the aforementioned judicial matters, the opposition platform demanded transparency concerning an inventory of over 1,000 water-pumping machines that were allegedly left unallocated in storage facilities across the state.
This inquiry references findings from the ICPC Phase II Interim Report on its Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Initiative, which previously documented that the agency had locked down the facility housing the equipment. The ADC is currently demanding to know whether the distribution to the intended community beneficiaries eventually took place and what enforcement actions followed the discovery.
Ultimately, the Kebbi State campaign council has admonished the federal anti- graft body to uphold transparency by addressing their correspondence, clarifying asset recovery totals, and detailing administrative outcomes permitted under current legal frameworks.
