The Kebbi State Government has established a special committee to investigate the troubling deaths of two young girls at the General Hospital in Zuru.

Governor Nasir Idris initiated the investigation in response to increasing public anxiety, especially following claims that the deaths were linked to an erroneous injection.

This decision was communicated through a statement released on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in Birnin Kebbi by Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Tafida.

The statement revealed that the committee will be led by the Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Ahmed, and will include the Commissioners for Health, Sama’ila Augie, and Establishment, Manu Dogondaji, as members.

The position of secretary will be filled by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Zaki Abubakar Zaki.

"The committee is tasked with conducting a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into the unfortunate event, establishing both the immediate and underlying causes of the deaths, and suggesting appropriate measures including possible sanctions, where necessary,” Tafida stated.

He emphasized that the government will take a firm stand against any negligence within the healthcare system, ensuring that anyone found responsible will face legal repercussions.

The state has set a one-week deadline for the committee to present its findings and has urged members to begin their work without delay.
