The national chairman of the Labour Party, Nenadi Usman, has declared that the party has chosen to allocate its 2027 presidential nomination to southern Nigeria, effectively ruling out any candidates from the northern region.

During a statement made in Abuja, Usman confirmed that the decision has been officially concluded within the party. She stated, "We have made a definite decision that we will definitely not field any aspirant from the northern region. The presidential ticket has been zoned to southern Nigeria."

Usman further emphasized, "If any aspirant from the north approaches us to contest in the elections, we will not accept that. Despite making this announcement, she refrained from mentioning a preferred candidate, underscoring that the selection would adhere to democratic principles.

She noted, "At this time, I cannot reveal any names because that would compromise our democratic process. The candidate will be determined by who the people choose and vote for during the primaries." On matters concerning the party's internal affairs, she disclosed that a legal case challenging the party's leadership had been dismissed.

"To God be the glory, the case was thrown out for lack of merit," she said, adding that the ruling was based on factual evidence. Moreover, Usman suggested that the party may revise the schedule for its congresses in light of an expanding membership base.

She explained, "If we adhere strictly to the current timetable, we risk disenfranchising a significant number of potential participants." In connection with security issues, she confirmed that the party has formally contacted the Nigeria Police Force regarding an assault on its office.

Expressing her optimism regarding accountability, she stated, "I am confident that they will ensure justice is served against those responsible for the incident as a deterrent for future occurrences." Finally, Usman encouraged party members to adopt digital registration, with manual methods being reserved for those lacking access to modern technology.
