The Lagos State Police Command has provided clarification on why its investigation into multiple claims of rape and various allegations against Chris Okafor, the leader of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, has been suspended.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, had previously mandated a probe and instructed Okafor to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) located at Panti.

Later developments indicated that the case was transferred to Sylvester Alabi, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing Zone 2, for further proceedings.

Updating the situation, the spokesperson for the command, Abimbola Adebisi, mentioned that the investigation was temporarily halted because the complainants who were invited did not show up, as reported by TheCable.

She elaborated that it was not possible to conduct a separate investigation while the case was being handled by the Zone 2 Command, which is under the supervision of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

Furthermore, Adebisi explained that Okafor was released on his own recognizance to permit the IGP-supervised investigation to continue without disruption.

She stated: "There has not been further investigation from our command. I don’t know if you are aware that he was invited. They came around, and that was the point at which we found out he had similar complaints that are still being examined. Thus, the Commissioner of Police instructed us to stop. Once the investigations in Zone 2 are completed, we will resume ours.

“So far, all the complainants we have reached out to have declined to appear. For the time being, we are not intensifying our efforts; we await the outcome from Zone 2, which will determine our next steps. He was released on personal recognition to ease his transition to Zone 2 for additional inquiries there."

The issues surrounding Okafor came to light in December 2025 when actress Doris Ogala accused him of not fulfilling a marriage promise and claimed he had negatively impacted her life.

This publication reported that Ogala asserted that the alleged betrayal had resulted in significant emotional distress, coupled with several other allegations.

Tensions mounted when the pastor publicly apologized to Ogala and other women he claimed to have wronged, while simultaneously accusing his ex-wife, Bessem, of infidelity.

In response, Bessem denied these claims, asserting that she remained loyal throughout their marriage and alleged that Okafor had subjected her to domestic violence.

In light of escalating disputes and emerging accusations, Okafor announced that he would be stepping back from his ministerial duties for a month.
