The Lagos State Government has escalated its campaign against unlawful street trading, executing several clean-up operations throughout significant areas of the state.
As reported by Punch, Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, indicated that these operations were aimed at locations where traders had monopolized roads, leading to traffic hindrances.
Wahab mentioned that the Environmental Task Force focused efforts on Ogudu Road near Ojota Junction, as well as areas under the Iyana-Ipaja Bridge and at Egbeda Junction.
He expressed concern over the encroachment of traders onto roadways, which jeopardizes both traffic flow and public safety.
During the clean-up activities, various goods were confiscated, and 15 individuals were taken into custody.
Wahab further revealed that all detained individuals would face prosecution in court, and the confiscated items would be surrendered to the state in accordance with existing laws.
"Street trading is illegal in Lagos, and we are committed to enforcing this law consistently and equitably to maintain safety, order, and accessibility for all road users," he affirmed.
The Lagos State Government has once more called on residents and traders to adhere to regulations in order to avoid penalties.
