The alarming statistics were detailed in the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service’s Year 2025 Activity Report, which was unveiled during the Y2026 Staff Engagement event themed: “People, Preparedness and Service Delivery: Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service,” held on Tuesday at Alausa, Ikeja.

The report highlighted that during the period under consideration, there were 2,617 emergency calls reported, with 645 categorized as false alarms related to 1,685 actual fire incidents.

Fortunately, 473 individuals were successfully rescued from these incidents, and N118.32 billion worth of property was preserved.

In terms of fire safety measures, the report noted that fire prevention initiatives included inspections of 8,791 facilities, the issuance of 7,997 safety certificates, and the provision of 90 reports.

Margaret Adeseye, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, addressed the gathering, indicating that, despite these successes, the service continues to encounter operational challenges such as the high incidence of false alarms and insufficient water supply during emergency responses.
