Veteran journalist Laolu Akande, who served as a spokesperson for former Vice- President Yemi Osinbajo during his tenure, has shared his experience of narrowly escaping a helicopter crash seven years ago in Kabba, Kogi State.

Reflecting on the event in a post to mark the anniversary, Akande detailed that the helicopter crash-landed in February 2019 while he was accompanying Osinbajo's campaign team, which was working towards the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo.

All twelve individuals aboard, including Osinbajo, managed to escape unharmed, viewing the incident as a sign of divine mercy.

He recounted that following the crash-landing, the delegation boarded a bus that was meant to take them to a campaign event in the region.

Instead, they were redirected to a nearby hotel where they could change clothes and rest briefly after the shocking ordeal.

Despite the traumatic experience, Akande noted that Osinbajo was determined to proceed with campaign activities and dismissed any suggestions to halt their engagements for the day.

Expressing his gratitude for their survival, Akande remarked that what could have been a day of mourning instead became a time for thanksgiving.

He posted a heartfelt message regarding the incident:

"E ba mi yin Oluwa logo o! That means 'join me to praise the LORD!' It’s testimony time. God saved us, 12 of us including then VP, February 2, 2019. My darling wife said to me yesterday this would have been the 7th anniversary of a remembrance! But the good LORD saved & preserved all of us. PRAISE JESUS! E BA MI YIN JESU L’OGO, AMEN, E BA MI YIN JESU LOGO," he shared.

Akande continued, "Seven years ago exactly today, I wrote and posted this tweet just moments after our chopper crash-landed in Kabba, Kogi State. I was on the delegation of then VP Osinbajo."

He described how he crafted the tweet while sitting inside a bus designated to transport the Vice President and his team to a campaign stop after their re- routed journey to a hotel for freshening up. Within an hour, Osinbajo courageously led them back to campaign activities, prioritizing their responsibilities over personal comfort. The sheer determination displayed during that day remains an embodiment of gratitude to God for their safety. Akande concluded with encouragement to others to join in his praise: "Please sing with me: E BA MI YIN JESU L’OGO, AMEN, E BA MI YIN JESU LOGO, AMEN! ALAGBAWI EDA....."

The helicopter incident occurred amidst a nationwide campaign tour preceding the 2019 general elections, with no fatalities recorded from the crash.
