Famous footballer Lionel Messi is scheduled to meet President Donald Trump at the White House, accompanied by his Inter Miami teammates, on Thursday, March 5.
The team arrived in Washington D.C. early on the same day to participate in a ceremony celebrating their 2025 MLS Cup title.
The White House has verified Messi’s visit, with a spokesperson from the club noting that the entire first team is set to attend between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. ET, culminating in a ceremony at 4 p.m.
This occasion marks Inter Miami as the first Major League Soccer (MLS) champion to call on Trump during both of his terms as President of the United States.
Additionally, it represents a first for Messi himself — the two-time MLS MVP, eight-time Ballon d'Or recipient, and current Argentine World Cup holder.
In January 2025, Messi was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden, but could not attend the ceremony due to a scheduling conflict during Inter Miami's brief offseason.
The visit to the White House occurs just before Inter Miami is scheduled to face D.C. United in their third match of the 2026 MLS regular season at M&T; Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
