Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, has expressed strong criticism towards any members of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to Minister Nyesom Wike, claiming they undermine democracy and support President Tinubu for the upcoming 2027 elections. Oyo State's Governor, Seyi Makinde, has stated that any political figure or member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) siding with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike is acting against the public interest and democracy. He asserted that Wike is essentially acting as a puppet for President Tinubu in preparation for the 2027 elections.

Makinde made these comments during a visit to Bauchi State on Sunday, where he and several prominent PDP figures visited Governor Bala Mohammed at the Ramat Presidential Lodge.

While addressing inquiries from journalists, Makinde elaborated, "I publicly stated that I attended a meeting with Wike and the President, where it was indicated that he would support the PDP for the President in the 2027 election."

He continued to assert that those who align themselves with Wike and his associates are also endorsing President Tinubu for his second term bid in 2027. "We can leave this for the Nigerian populace to judge – if they choose to stand with a group that is explicitly backing the President, then that's their choice, and we have no issue with that," he added.

Makinde maintained that although individuals may support whoever they wish, loyalty should be clear, suggesting that it is important to openly engage with the side one supports. "They have government, the judiciary, and INEC on their side, but we have the backing of the people," he asserted.

The Governor emphasized, "We are not seeking reconciliation with anyone concerning the PDP. We intend to confront the obstacles ahead and effectively engage in the 2027 elections."

During his visit, Makinde expressed solidarity with Bala Mohammed and the citizens of Bauchi State, encouraging them as they face challenges. He remarked that leadership often comes with difficulties, yet, he insisted, "Whenever the populace is unhappy, it may be night now, but joy will surely come in the morning."

He offered prayers during the current season, stressing the importance of the sacrifices made by the people.

In response, Governor Bala Mohammed disagreed with Makinde’s position on reconciliation, stating, "This matter of reconciliation has not been initiated by us; it is being handled as a remedy by a competent court - the Federal Court of Appeal."

Mohammed further emphasized, "We are committed to upholding the law, and my brother's (Makinde's) viewpoint is simply his own; however, we firmly believe there are no irreconcilable issues within Nigeria, particularly in the political arena."
