Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, the matriarch of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has sadly passed away.
Initial reports indicate that she died on Friday afternoon, although specific details surrounding her death remain unclear at this time.
The confirmation of her passing was made by Hon Bello El-Rufai, who is her grandson.
He shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, stating, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came and to Him we shall all return. I would like to inform the public of the demise of my Grandmother, Hajiya Umma El- Rufai who passed away a few hours ago.”
Bello expressed gratitude for the life she led and requested prayers for the family, saying, “She is the biological mother of our father, Mallam Nasir @elrufai. We are grateful for the life she lived and may Allah SWT bless her gentle soul. May He bless the soul of the parents we have lost. On behalf of our family, we seek your prayers. Thank you.”
This news comes at a difficult time for El-Rufai, who is currently in custody. He has been charged with ten counts relating to the alleged misappropriation of public resources and money laundering after a month of detention.
El-Rufai has pleaded not guilty to all accusations, and a Federal High Court in Kaduna has postponed the bail application hearing to March 31, as ordered by Judge Rilwanu Aikawa following hearings from the defense and prosecution.
