The Oyo State Fire Service has retrieved the body of a 45-year-old man who lost his life while attempting to rescue a goat from a deep well located in Saki West Local Government Area of the state.
Additionally, the agency also found the remains of a 30-year-old man, Shina Adedeji, in a different well at another location.
Moroof Akinwande, the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reforms and the Chairman of the state Fire Service, provided this information in a statement released in Ibadan, the capital of the state, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
He reported that Adedeji fell into a well situated in the Aaje Ikose region of Ogbomoso within Ogbomoso North Local Government Area on Tuesday, while the second body was recovered from a deep well in the Mokola area of Saki the previous day.
The individual involved in the Saki incident was reportedly trying to save a goat when the tragedy occurred.
Akinwande noted, "We received a distress call at 10:23 PM on Monday from a source indicating that a person had fallen into a well in Mokola, Saki."
"Emergency responders, led by PFS II Kolade Taiwo, were quickly mobilized to the site. Upon reaching the scene, they found a man approximately 45 years old trapped inside a deep well."
“Our teams swiftly took action, cordoning off the area and employing the required equipment to successfully retrieve the man from the well."
He further stated, “The incident transpired when the man voluntarily entered the well to rescue a goat, leading to him getting stuck.”
Regarding the situation in Ogbomoso, Akinwande mentioned, “On February 3, precisely at 9:45 AM, we were called for a rescue operation at the Aaje Ikose area of Ogbomoso from a running caller and CFM Adeleke."
“Firefighters, under the command of CFM Oladejo, promptly proceeded to the location. Upon arrival, they discovered a 30-year-old man, Shina Adedeji, who had fallen into a well and was eventually recovered by the agency’s personnel."
“It was reported that he was trapped within the well, which contained ammonia gas, while trying to retrieve an object."
The chairman urged the public to prioritize safety during their daily activities, emphasizing that life is irreplaceable.
