Many individuals are feared dead following a violent assault by suspected terrorists linked to the Lakurawa group against rural communities in the Arewa Local Government Area on Wednesday, February 18.

As reported by Channels TV, armed assailants invaded several villages located in a remote border district, unleashing gunfire on villagers in what witnesses described as well-coordinated and random attacks.

Security forces deployed to Kebbi communities following the attack by suspected terrorists.

Community sources claim that the death toll includes sixteen victims from Mamunu, five in Awashaka, and three in Masama, while two fatalities were recorded in each of five other impacted villages.

The violence caused widespread panic, prompting numerous inhabitants to abandon their homes as the attackers invaded residences and fired upon civilians.

In response to the situation, security forces have been dispatched to the affected regions to ensure community safety, assist survivors, and prevent the assailants from escaping. Tracking operations are actively underway.

The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, has confirmed the events and stated that more information will be disclosed as investigations progress.
