Sundry Markets Limited (SML), known for being Nigeria's leading indigenous grocery retailer with its Marketsquare chain, is reaffirming its commitment to community well-being through its 'Marketsquare Cares' program. This outreach initiative is focused on improving access to healthcare and health outcomes for neglected groups in Nigeria.

Emmanuel Isangediok, the Head of Marketing at SML, stated that the initiative in Yenagoa, the capital city of Bayelsa State, highlights the company's commitment to enhancing healthcare access for deprived communities in Nigeria.

In collaboration with Pro-Health International, the outreach provided a broad spectrum of medical services, which included free health consultations, specialized surgeries, eye care, screenings for blood sugar and blood pressure, dental check-ups, and health education.

Ebele Enunwa, the Managing Director and CEO of SML, expressed joy over the community's engagement and emphasized the significant impact the outreach had on local residents. "Yenagoa has been very supportive to us. Since our first store opened here in 2015, we have gained so much. The community has shown us warmth, and this initiative is our way of reciprocating that love," Enunwa remarked.

He further explained that the patronage from customers facilitates SML’s capability to give back, stating, "It’s easier to give when you have. When our customers shop at our stores, it empowers us to assist the community more effectively."

Enunwa reiterated SML’s dedication to social responsibility, stating, "We’re committed to supporting the social fabric by distributing wealth in meaningful ways. This is our method of returning the kindness we've experienced from the people of Yenagoa."

During the outreach, a total of 3,772 individuals received various types of care, which resulted in over 9,800 medical interventions including general consultations, surgical procedures, eye care, dental services, health promotion activities, and laboratory tests.

Sundry Markets Limited has previously organized similar medical outreach efforts in other locations such as Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Benin City in Edo State, and Aba in Abia State, providing essential healthcare services to numerous underserved individuals in those areas.
