On Saturday, dissatisfied members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State went to the private residence of their chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, to voice their grievances regarding suspected efforts to modify the list of party executives that were affirmed during the recent congress.
The demonstrators, in footage circulating online, accused the party’s leadership of attempting to substitute the names of the confirmed executives with those of favored candidates.
One of the protestors stated, "We adhered to the directive from the national leadership that the congress should be held by affirmation. The existing executives were returned unopposed in a transparent manner.
"However, we now see a sinister attempt to manipulate the list and replace the names of those who were confirmed. This is why we have come to express our protest."
The protesters urged the national leadership of the APC to step in and ensure that the legitimate list of executives, validated during the congresses, is honored.
They cautioned that any effort to change the outcomes could exacerbate divisions within the party and disrupt its stability in Kwara State as the 2027 elections approach.
According to reports from Daily Trust, the affirmation of the party leadership in Ilorin was attended by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and several notable party members.
In response to the protests, Prince Sunday Fagbemi spoke with Daily Trust on Sunday, referring to the aggrieved members as “ignorant” and asserting that no changes or announcements had been made regarding the executive list.
"What they are doing is based on speculation, and they are being influenced by some reckless individuals. They have trespassed on my property," he stated.
Fagbemi emphasized that the protestors should have presented their complaints to the party office rather than taking such actions themselves.
He encouraged APC members to refrain from following those acting on unverified information.
"I just want everyone to adhere to the law. It appears we are facing a situation resembling the biblical ‘Hands of Esau and Voice of Jacob’. Some individuals are attempting to infiltrate us, and we should not permit them to exploit our organization," he remarked.
