New information has surfaced about the recovery of Michael Schumacher, the celebrated Formula 1 driver, who is reportedly no longer bedridden after suffering a serious skiing accident in 2013.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Schumacher, who incurred a traumatic brain injury from crashing into a rock while skiing in the French Alps, “is now sitting up in a wheelchair.” Sources mention that the 57-year-old can now be moved around his estates in Majorca and Switzerland in this new capacity.
Following the tragic accident that changed his life over a decade ago, Schumacher has kept a low profile and remained largely out of the public eye.
He is under the care of his wife, Corinna, whom he married in 1995, alongside a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, including nurses and therapists, who are said to “keep a 24-hour watch” over him.
Amid numerous speculations regarding Schumacher’s health, including claims that he communicates solely through blinking, a close insider provided a more detailed insight. “The feeling is he understands some of the things going on around him, but probably not all of them,” stated the source, highlighting the complexities of his condition.
The Schumacher family has faced additional challenges in recent years. In 2025, three individuals were convicted of attempting to extort the family by threatening to release hundreds of private videos and photos online unless they paid a substantial sum.
A year before that, unsubstantiated rumors about Schumacher's potential appearance at his daughter’s wedding were denied by a family representative.
Throughout his career, Schumacher achieved incredible success, securing seven world titles and 91 race victories before his retirement in 2012.
