Nigerian military forces have successfully rescued eight individuals who were kidnapped during a coordinated operation in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Nigerian Army disclosed this achievement through its official Facebook page on Thursday, confirming that the operation occurred on Wednesday.
According to the Army's statement, troops from Sector 7 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) acted on credible intelligence to launch a swift assault on a notorious kidnapper's hideout in the Badurum Kasa Forest.
"The troops, in collaboration with the Zango Kataf Police Area Command, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Forest Guards, and local hunters, aggressively advanced toward the forest," stated the Army.
The encounter reached a pivotal moment in the late afternoon as security personnel closed in on the camp used by the criminals.
"At around 1759 hours (5:59 p.m.), contact was established, causing panic among the kidnappers. Unable to withstand the superior tactics and precision of the combined team, they deserted their captives and fled into nearby bushes in disarray," the statement read.
All eight rescued individuals were reported unhurt and have since been happily reunited with their families.
The Army identified the rescued individuals as Rashida Musa, 19; Hafsat Nuhu, 18; Zakari Saleh, 52; Hasiya Yahaya; Ahmed Yahaya, 14; Ibrahim Saiba, 11; Salma Yahaya, 14; and Sophan Idris, 18.
This successful operation highlights the Nigerian Army's effective collaboration with other agencies, showcasing their agility in ground operations and unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and critical routes while thwarting criminal activities.
This event occurs amidst a troubling trend of mass kidnappings in Kaduna State, which has recently experienced various abductions targeting rural communities and places of worship.
While this operation successfully brought eight individuals back to safety, the state remains on alert due to recent assaults against churchgoers in Kajuru Local Government Area. Moreover, approximately 151 individuals who were kidnapped at a church in Wali on January 18 are still missing.
