The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, has refuted claims circulating about his potential resignation to contest for the Plateau North senatorial position. He has urged the public to disregard these rumours.
Reports suggesting his departure to pursue senatorial ambitions had appeared in Daily Trust, listing him among individuals potentially resigning following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directive. However, Dr Jasper Adeleye, Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties to the minister, informed Daily Trust that such plans do not exist.
Adeleye emphasized that Minister Doro is fully committed to supporting the current administration and its goals, having been appointed by the president. He highlighted that the minister was recently appointed and is focused on his current responsibilities rather than seeking another political office, especially at a time when his service is crucial.
He added that Doro has just commenced his duties under the president. "The speculations are understandable, given that the Honourable Minister had, before his appointment, indicated interest in the Plateau North senatorial contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress. However, he is fully focused on the task of coordinating humanitarian interventions and reducing poverty in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda," Adeleye stated.
Adeleye further noted that such reports could create unwanted distractions and negatively impact the minister's performance.
