A court in Nasarawa State has ordered the detention of a woman after she mobilized her son and his friends to violently assault an Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) employee, Mr. Abdul Ishaka.
According to a statement issued by the electricity distribution company on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Ishaka was left unconscious while fulfilling his official duties, raising new concerns about the safety of utility personnel in the region.
The incident took place on February 10 at around 1:00 PM, as Ishaka, who serves as a Customer Representative Officer (CRO) at the Karshi Service Center within the Masaka Business Office, was performing his legitimate responsibilities.
The customer involved, identified as Mrs. Laraba Waziri, allegedly incited her son and his friends to attack Ishaka after he questioned her about her illegal reconnection of power following a prior disconnection due to non-payment.
Reports indicate that the outstanding debt on Mrs. Waziri's account totals N272,499.47. The assault was particularly brutal, leaving Ishaka in a state of unconsciousness. He was initially taken to Emmanuel Baptist Clinic for urgent care before being transferred to the Federal Medical Center, Keffi, where he is currently receiving treatment.
In a prompt reaction to the incident, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) took direct action by instructing the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police to accelerate the investigation. The primary suspect has been arrested and brought before the Senior Magistrate Court in Auta Balefi, where she will remain in police custody until the other suspects who remain at large are captured.
