Hafsatu Yusuf, a woman who attracted public interest by giving birth to quintuplets at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano State, has sadly passed away.

Nabilusi Abubakar, a spokesperson for the Kano State Ministry of Health, confirmed on Thursday that Mrs. Yusuf died just hours after giving birth.

According to the Ministry, she successfully delivered three boys and two girls around 2 a.m., but succumbed later that morning despite receiving intensive medical attention.

Mr. Abubakar explained that the cause of death was persistent postpartum hemorrhaging.

“She experienced continuous bleeding post-delivery. Despite the exhaustive attempts by medical professionals to stabilize her and control the bleeding, she unfortunately passed away,” he stated.

The deceased was subsequently buried in accordance with Islamic customs at her residence in Hotoro, located in the Tarauni Local Government Area.

The Ministry also reported that all five newborns are currently stable and under specialized medical care at the hospital.

In light of this unfortunate event, the Ministry is appealing to the community for assistance.

“We call on the public to help with donations of milk and other critical supplies for the infants’ well-being,” the spokesperson added.

This unfortunate incident occurred just after the Kano State Government had pledged to cover all medical expenses for both the mother and the infants.

Earlier, the Ministry had shared that the delivery was successful and that the family was receiving personalized care from a specialized medical team.

The husband of the deceased, Salisu Nufi’u, expressed gratitude to the state government for its prompt support during this challenging time.
