Kafin-Hausa Local Government Area in Jigawa State stands out as one of the most populous and expansive local government areas in the region. It houses several important educational institutions like Sule Lamido University and the School of Remedial Studies. However, this significant locality has experienced considerable MTN network difficulties over the last month.
The problems encompass a range of issues including the inability to make or receive calls, frequent disconnections, unreliable internet access, delayed or non-delivered text messages, and in instances, total network failure lasting between two to three hours.
Many residents have been unable to receive alerts for their banking transactions owing to these network challenges.
It appears that unresolved technical issues might be the source of this disruption. What is particularly troubling is that despite numerous complaints and follow-ups from affected subscribers, including myself, and communication with relevant bodies, MTN has yet to resolve the problems or provide any formal response or apology to its numerous affected customers.
MTN's responsibility should extend beyond major urban centers. As a leading telecommunications provider in Nigeria, the company must make efforts to restore, stabilize, enhance, and widen its network coverage in all communities, especially in towns like Kafin-Hausa.
Residents have been enduring unreliable services for an extended period. The consequences of this disruption are significant. Communication is a vital aspect of daily life, and telecommunications companies must recognize the economic repercussions and inconveniences their inconsistent services impose on subscribers. In Kafin-Hausa, many activities have come to a halt.
The near absence of MTN's services in Kafin-Hausa for almost two months raises serious concerns. This is especially worrisome given the reliance of educational institutions on internet connectivity for academic work, research, and learning.
We therefore urge MTN Nigeria to take immediate action to restore and stabilize network services in Kafin-Hausa and other impacted areas. Prompt measures are essential to alleviate the difficulties experienced by customers.
