The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has successfully rescued seven young women from a suspected human trafficking network during a recent operation in a hotel located in the Sabon Gari area of Kano state.

This action was executed by the Kano Zonal Command of NAPTIP following the receipt of credible intelligence regarding the trafficking activities.

According to Mohammed Habib, the Zonal Public Relations Officer for NAPTIP in Kano, the agency's operatives raided the hotel on Thursday, where they freed victims aged between 21 and 24 years.

During the operation, two suspects were apprehended.

Habib disclosed that investigations revealed the victims had been trafficked from southern Nigeria, with Kano serving as a transit location before their intended transfer to Baghdad, Iraq, for forced labor.

The victims reported that a woman, identified as the primary suspect, had sponsored their journey in collaboration with an accomplice who remains at large.

Under the arrangements made, these women were expected to reimburse all expenses incurred during their migration, along with profits, once they began working in the foreign country.

Currently, the rescued individuals are in the custody of NAPTIP in Kano, where they are receiving counseling and rehabilitation services.

Habib indicated that following the conclusion of investigations, the arrested suspects would face prosecution.

NAPTIP reiterated its dedication to dismantling trafficking networks and urged the public to be alert and report any suspicious activities in their communities.
