Nasarawa Police Save 17 Victims of Human Trafficking

The police in Nasarawa State successfully rescued 17 individuals believed to be victims of human trafficking, including 11 boys and 6 girls, aged between 10 and 19 years. They were intercepted while traveling towards Kayama in Kwara State.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully rescued 17 individuals alleged to be victims of human trafficking, which includes 11 boys and 6 girls whose ages range from 10 to 19 years.

SP Ramhan Nansel, who serves as the Command’s Public Relations Officer, reported that the victims were stopped at Sharp Corner in the Karu Local Government Area. They were found traveling in a Volkswagen Sharon vehicle from Shendam in Plateau State heading towards Kayama in Kwara State.

According to police statements, the victims indicated they were on their way to meet someone named Umaru, who allegedly promised them jobs in agriculture in Kayama town.

SP Nansel mentioned that attempts to reach out to their parents, guardians, and Umaru yielded no results.

On 17th January 2026, at approximately 17:50 hours, patrol officers from Mararaba ‘A’ Division, while conducting a stop-and-search operation at Sharp Corner, Karu Local Government Area, intercepted a white Volkswagen Sharon vehicle registered as SHD 253 YU.

This vehicle, driven by a 36-year-old male named Nanle John, carried seventeen (17) passengers, consisting of eleven boys and six girls, all aged between 10 and 19.

Upon questioning, the occupants raised suspicions of being victims of human trafficking. Further inquiries disclosed that both the driver and passengers affirmed their travel from Shendam, Plateau State, to Kayama in Kwara State to meet Umaru, who purportedly promised them agricultural jobs in the area.

The identified victims include: Nanpar Zwaltur, 19; Monday Zinglak, 14; Ramnap Selchum, 18; Nankat Ayuba, 18; Burnan Yilkur, 19; Timnan Ponfa, 19; Nantip Nanbut, 19; Kumlyan Nanbut, 17; Zwalkur Zingdap, 15; Nanfar Zwalkur, 11; Nanpar Nanbut, 14; Nanchu Bwoi, 13; Godiya Lagang, 10; Yulbyen Zingdap, 10; Nanna Chirvyok, 12; Sholyen Rapkat, 10; and Ladi Dinfa, 12.

SP Nansel indicated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has mandated the victims to be placed under protective custody. Additionally, a comprehensive investigation has been ordered to identify individuals involved in this suspected human trafficking operation.

The police department reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding vulnerable groups and eliminating human trafficking in Nasarawa State.
