The Nasarawa State Police Command has reported the successful recovery of a three-day-old baby boy who was abducted, alongside the arrest of two women implicated in the crime. The incident occurred in the Karu Local Government Area of the state.
Previously, it was reported that an infant was taken from his teenage mother, Aisha Bada, on March 28th in the Mararaba area by unidentified individuals.
The command's Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the operation in a statement released on Friday morning, April 3, 2026.
According to Nansel, detectives from the Mararaba 'A' Division, acting on solid intelligence, apprehended the suspects, identified as Furera Abdulrahman and Sadiya Abdullahi, and secured the infant on April 3rd.
During their questioning, the suspects admitted to their involvement in the abduction and identified a third accomplice who is currently at large.
"The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully rescued a three-day-old abducted baby and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime,” the official statement indicated.
"On 29th March 2026, at approximately 05:45 hours, Aisha Bada, a 19-year-old resident of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, Mararaba, within the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, reported to the police station that her newborn baby boy had been kidnapped by unknown individuals.
"She explained that her husband, Abubakar Isah, who operates a commercial tricycle (Keke Napep), had been away in Lagos for business for about five months.
"According to her account, on 28th March 2026, around 11:50 hours, while she was sleeping with her three-day-old baby in their unfinished building located on the outskirts of Unguwan Bawa, Orange Market, two unknown men forcibly entered the premises, threatened her with violence, and abducted the baby to an undisclosed location.
"Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, mandated the detectives of Mararaba 'A' Division to proceed to the scene immediately and launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
"Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives on April 3, 2026, at about 04:00 hours, successfully arrested two suspects: Furera Abdulrahman, aged 35, residing in Rugan Juli, and Sadiya Abdullahi, aged 39, residing in Unguwan Bako, Orange Market.
"The abducted baby boy was found in their possession and was safely recovered.
"During interrogation, the suspects confessed to committing the crime and named an accomplice who is now being sought for their role in orchestrating the abduction.
"Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the suspect who is still at large.
"The rescued infant was promptly transported to the Medical Centre, Mararaba, where he underwent a medical examination, was certified to be in good health, and subsequently discharged.
"The child has since been reunited with his parents.
"The case is presently under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for further in-depth investigation once preliminary inquiries are concluded.
"The Nasarawa State Police Command reaffirms its steadfast commitment to safeguarding lives and properties and implores the public to maintain vigilance and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station without delay."
