The League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) has been acknowledged with an honour at the 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA). This significant event took place from April 14 to April 18, 2026, in Ibadan.
The celebratory AGM, which also included a conference and exhibition, marked NANTA’s Golden Jubilee. Its theme, “Embracing Our Diverse Cultural Heritage from the City of Firsts: Redefining Our Role as Global Travel Ambassadors,” underscored a focus on enhancing economic and cultural connections within the Western Zone and strengthening Nigeria's position in the international travel landscape.
During the Dinner and Award Night held at the Jogor Event Centre, LAAC was presented with a Special Recognition Award. This accolade was bestowed in appreciation of the league's continuous efforts in advancing Nigeria’s aviation, tourism, and travel industries.
Mrs. Adelola Adewole, the Public Relations Officer of NANTA, presented the award on behalf of the association.
Accepting the award for LAAC, General Secretary Anthony Awunor, who represented the Chairman, Sulaiman Idris, expressed gratitude to NANTA. He described the award as a reflection of the association's fairness and consistent institutional recognition.
"I thank NANTA for this honour. It demonstrates that the association remains objective in its assessments. We are committed to ongoing collaboration with all industry stakeholders to ensure continued growth across the sector," Awunor stated.
He reiterated LAAC's dedication to fostering strategic alliances among key industry players, emphasizing the crucial role of media engagement in the development of the sector and the alignment of policies.
Earlier in the proceedings, NANTA President Yinka Folami, who was re-elected for another term at the AGM, characterized the association’s 50-year milestone not merely as a celebration but as a testament to its sustained relevance as the primary organized body representing Nigeria’s travel trade sector.
"Fifty years signifies more than just a number; it represents a legacy," Folami remarked. He elaborated on NANTA’s instrumental role in establishing industry benchmarks, ensuring adherence to regulations, and consistently championing the interests of its more than 3,500 members across the nation.
Folami highlighted that the current leadership's efforts have been guided by a three-part strategy focused on fairness, market protection, and market enhancement, with a strong emphasis on transparent, accountable, and equitable practices in industry operations.
He further detailed NANTA's consistent engagement with governmental bodies on policy and financial matters, and its active participation in national discussions concerning taxation, regulatory frameworks, and international travel rules.
Additionally, Folami mentioned that the association continues to cultivate partnerships with airlines, tourism organizations, and international entities to promote a more streamlined and effective travel system.
The Award Night was one of several events organized during the AGM, which also included welcome receptions, tours of tourist attractions, and technical sessions. These activities were designed to showcase the rich cultural heritage and economic potential of Ibadan, the host city.
LAAC, recognized as a leading body in aviation oversight, serves as Nigeria's umbrella organization for aviation media, tasked with ensuring effective media coverage and professional standards within the aviation industry.
