Officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), specifically the Edo State Command, have reported the confiscation of 1,378 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, which was linked to a local drug syndicate.
The State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchel Ofoyeju, announced that during the operation, a man identified as Roland Owie, aged 37, was taken into custody in connection with the impounded drugs.
Ofoyeju explained that the agency acted on credible intelligence to conduct a raid on an illegal storage facility situated in the Igbanke community, within the Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.
During the raid, authorities recovered 125 sacks filled with dried plant material, believed to be cannabis, which together weighed approximately 1,378 kilograms.
"The confiscation of 1,378 kilograms of cannabis in a single operation significantly disrupts the distribution channels for these dangerous substances," he stated.
He added, "This successful operation underscores our continuous efforts to dismantle drug cartels and our strategic focus on curbing the supply of illicit drugs."
According to the commander, this seizure prevents a substantial quantity of drugs from reaching streets, educational institutions, and communities, thereby protecting young individuals from the detrimental effects of addiction.
He emphasized that every kilogram of drugs seized diminishes the criminal economy, weakens trafficking networks, and contributes to a safer society, reiterating that suppressing drug supply remains a critical component of the NDLEA's operational strategy.
