New Chairman Appointed by Bank Directors Following Chike-Obi's Retirement

The Bank Directors Association of Nigeria (BDAN) has named Dr. Oluwayemisi Olorunshola as the new Chairman of its Board of Directors after the retirement of Mr. Mustafa Chike-Obi. Dr. Olorunshola brings a wealth of experience to the position, enhancing the leadership of BDAN.

The Bank Directors Association of Nigeria (BDAN) has officially selected Dr. Oluwayemisi Olorunshola as the new Chairman of its Board of Directors, taking over from Mr. Mustafa Chike-Obi who has retired after fulfilling his term.

Dr. Olorunshola currently holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors at Wema Bank Plc. She has accumulated over 25 years in diverse roles, focusing on supply chain management, enterprise leadership, and corporate governance.

In addition, she possesses more than 15 years of experience working within multinational companies and has spent over ten years as a business manager, showcasing extensive knowledge in areas such as business planning, procurement, logistics, import and export operations.

Since joining the BDAN Board in January 2023 as a Director, she has illustrated her commitment to the Association's goals, which include enhancing governance standards and advocating for sustainable leadership in Nigeria's banking sector.

Dr. Olorunshola earned her Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Education and Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Subsequently, she obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Liverpool in the UK, as well as a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from Walden University in the USA.

A dedicated proponent of education and sustainable business practices, she has published a significant article on strategies for small business sustainability in the Journal of Functional Education, which is indexed by ProQuest and Academia.edu, and this work has received citations from several academics focusing on business sustainability.

Additionally, she serves as a Fellow of the International Institute for African Scholars and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM). Outside her professional life, Dr. Olorunshola is engaged in community development projects and civic activities, contributing significantly to the progress of social and economic initiatives.

Upon her appointment, Adebukola Orenuga, the Chief Executive Officer of BDAN, expressed confidence in Dr. Olorunshola's leadership qualities, stating, "Dr. Olorunshola is a principled and accomplished leader with significant board and business experience. She has consistently demonstrated dedication to the vision and mission of the Association. We are confident that under her leadership, BDAN will continue to strengthen its strategic impact and advance its mandate of representing and promoting the interests of Bank Directors and Banks in Nigeria."

The Association also expressed gratitude to Mr. Chike-Obi for his outstanding leadership, loyalty, and valuable contributions during his time as Chairman.
