A baby has been admitted to the hospital in serious condition after being born following a collision involving its mother and an e-bike in the UK. The Dorset Police have launched an urgent investigation to locate the rider responsible for the incident.
The collision occurred on Herbert Avenue in Poole around 3:50 PM on January 26, as confirmed by the authorities. The pregnant woman was walking along the avenue when she was struck by the e-bike, with the rider reportedly fleeing from the scene afterward.
Following the accident, the woman gave birth to her child, who remains hospitalized and is facing serious health challenges.
Police are currently appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have relevant dashcam footage to come forward, especially concerning the pedestrian, a woman in her 30s. The collision involved two individuals on the e-bike at the time.
Police Constable Dan Blagden of the Roads Policing Team stated, 'We are undertaking a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding this collision. I would strongly encourage any witnesses who have not already contacted the police to reach out to us.'
He further added, 'We would also like to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage that may shed light on the circumstances leading up to the incident. It is important to note that there was a passenger on the e-bike, and we are asking this person, along with the rider, to come forward and provide information to the authorities.'
