The Nigerian Army has initiated a search and rescue mission following the escape of a 40-year-old man, Mr. Bright Ochinachi, who was previously held captive along the busy Umuahia–Aba road in Abia State.
Captain Mazinho Attah, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army in Ohafia, Abia State, provided this information in a statement issued on Monday, March 23, 2026.
According to Mr. Ochinachi, he was abducted on March 15, 2026, by unknown assailants who also stole his vehicle during the incident.
He detailed that the abduction took place on a route that has been the center of security concerns recently.
After managing to escape, he informed soldiers stationed in the Isiala Ngwa area about the incident.
In response, the troops promptly acted on the report, collaborating with the victim to launch a coordinated search and rescue operation in the surrounding areas of Uratta and Umuchima Forest to locate the kidnappers and retrieve the stolen vehicle.
Currently, the military's efforts to track down those responsible and prevent further kidnappings along this corridor are still ongoing.
Local residents have been urged to stay alert and to report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.
The statement emphasized that this incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in various parts of South-Eastern Nigeria, as the Nigerian Army continues to intensify its efforts to protect lives and property in the region.
