The Nigerian Army has issued a statement refuting circulating reports that claim an attack was carried out against Bishop Matthew Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral. The military described these claims as misleading and entirely without basis.
A Facebook post had propagated the rumour, alleging an armed assault on the residence of the Bishop of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese and the cathedral itself.
In response, the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army and Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma categorically denied that any such incident took place within Sokoto State.
Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, affirmed that Bishop Kukah remains secure, and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral is also safe. He confirmed that the cleric is actively engaged in his Easter obligations without any interference.
The Division further emphasized its commitment, in conjunction with other security agencies, to ensuring the complete safety and security of all individuals residing in Sokoto State and throughout its operational areas.
It was also stated that comprehensive security measures are in place to facilitate a peaceful and secure Easter celebration for everyone.
