Nigerian football talents made their mark across Europe over the weekend, with striker Paul Onuachu scoring his 16th league goal in Turkey and Rasheedat Ajibade firing Paris Saint-Germain into a domestic cup final in France.
While Onuachu's goal was not enough to prevent Trabzonspor from a 3-2 loss to Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig, Ajibade's decisive late goal confirmed PSG's 3-0 victory over Paris FC in the Coupe LFFP semi-final.
In Turkey, Onuachu continued his impressive scoring streak for Trabzonspor. The Super Eagles forward demonstrated his aerial prowess by heading in a goal from close range in a crowded box during the first half, highlighting the aerial advantage that has become a key part of the team's strategy. This goal marked his 16th of the current league campaign, underscoring his importance to Trabzonspor's offensive efforts. The team leads the 2025/26 Super Lig in headed goals, with Onuachu contributing five of those.
Onuachu remained a constant threat throughout the match, disrupting the Fenerbahce defence with his movement and pressing. His physical presence provided a reliable option for Trabzonspor under pressure.
Additionally, Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu assisted Ernest Muci's opening goal, giving Trabzonspor an early lead that energized the home crowd.
However, Fenerbahce ultimately prevailed with goals from Anderson Talisca, Kerem Akturkoglu, and Marco Asensio. The decisive goal came early in the second half, and the visitors managed the remainder of the game effectively.
Despite the defeat, Onuachu's consistent goal-scoring form remains a significant positive for his club and the Super Eagles.
In France, Rasheedat Ajibade played a crucial role in PSG's commanding win against Paris FC to reach the Coupe LFFP final.
The Paris derby saw a cautious first half with few clear chances, though Paris FC's Klaudia Jedlinska hit the crossbar in the 10th minute.
PSG intensified their efforts in the second half, with Romée Leuchter opening the scoring in the 47th minute. Merveille Kanjinga extended the lead in the second half.
Ajibade sealed the 3-0 victory in the 89th minute, calmly finishing from the edge of the area past goalkeeper Tara Elimbi Gilbert.
As a key player for both club and country, Ajibade's impact in crucial matches continues to grow. Her leadership and attacking skills will be vital for PSG as they compete for the trophy in the competition's inaugural final.
The weekend's matches demonstrated the consistent individual brilliance of Nigerian players competing on the European stage, from Onuachu's aerial dominance in Turkey to Ajibade's decisive finishing in Paris.
