The government of Lagos State expressed its astonishment regarding the collapse of a classroom block at Odokekere High School located in Ikorodu, confirming that no injuries occurred in the incident.
An official statement, issued by the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) and distributed through Mr. Gboyega Akosile, the Special Adviser's office on media to the Governor, indicated that the government was taken aback by the unfortunate event.
According to the statement, which was not formally signed, the government extended its regrets concerning the incident, noting that classified information from the SCRPS had identified the classroom block as already slated for demolition to allow for the construction of a new facility that could better accommodate the significant student population at the school.
The statement remarked, "We would also like to emphasize that no injuries were reported from the collapse, and all of our students are in excellent condition. Additionally, Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has mandated the immediate relocation of students to nearby schools to ensure their academic activities are not disrupted."
"A team from the SCRPS is scheduled to visit the school today for an on-site evaluation of the incident, enabling the government to devise strategies for the prompt construction of a modern classroom block aimed at meeting the needs of the school's large student body," it further added.
