NSCDC Detains Suspected Arms Dealer and Fraudster in Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has apprehended an individual suspected of arms trafficking along with another suspected fraudster in two distinct operations. These arrests are part of ongoing efforts to curb crime in the region.

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reported the arrest of a suspected gun trafficker as well as a fraud suspect during separate operations in the state.

A statement released on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, by the Command's Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, detailed that NSCDC operatives intercepted and arrested a suspected arms dealer who was found in possession of six firearms while on routine patrol along Murtala Muhammad Way in Kano.

Further inquiries revealed that the individual, identified as Suleiman M. Uba, a 31-year-old resident of Tashene village in Bauchi State, was heading to Kebbi State at the time of his arrest.

The statement emphasized that the arrest stemmed from actionable intelligence and proactive measures aimed at preventing the spread of illegal weapons and thwarting criminal activities throughout Kano State and adjacent areas.

In an additional related incident, the corps apprehended a fraud suspect, Abbas Lawan Garkuwa, aged 37, in Kwankwasiyya City located within Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

The report indicated that Garkuwa was allegedly caught with $600,000 in counterfeit U.S. dollars, which equals approximately N900 million, alongside various fetish items used in swindling unsuspecting victims.

Idris-Abdullahi confirmed that both cases are under thorough investigation and stated that the suspects would face charges in court upon completion of inquiries.

He reiterated the command's commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state, under the leadership of State Commandant Mohammed Hassan-Agalama. He also called on the public to continue supplying timely and valuable information to security services to bolster collective safety.
