The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given its nod for the creation of a College of Medical Sciences within Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi. This development is anticipated to significantly improve medical training and healthcare provision in Adamawa State.
Professor Auwal Abubakar, who led the NUC assessment panel, announced the approval while submitting the team’s findings to the state government. He highlighted that while this is a major advancement, ensuring sufficient qualified personnel to manage the 24 proposed departments within the college will be crucial.
Representing the government, Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta affirmed that establishing the college has been a long-standing objective in the state’s developmental agenda. She pledged the government’s complete dedication to ensuring the institution's successful launch.
Farauta emphasized that the health sector remains a paramount concern for Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration and stressed the importance of collaborative efforts for sustained healthcare development. She further stated that the new college would play a vital role in advancing healthcare services within Adamawa State and its environs.
As part of the NUC's review process, the panel inspected the Specialist Hospital in Mubi to assess its potential for conversion into a teaching hospital. The team also toured facilities at ADSU, expressing their satisfaction with the existing infrastructure and equipment.
