The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has commenced a specialized operation aimed at tackling the build-up of waste across the state.
Farouk Akintunde, the newly appointed Special Adviser to the Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, stated that this initiative was deemed essential to eliminate waste that had accumulated without proper management prior to his assumption of duty.
He expressed that, "All resources of the authority are now allocated to various locations statewide, with activities occurring simultaneously, especially in major towns such as Abeokuta, Sango-Ota, Ijebu-Ode, and Ifo. The 'Night Operation,' which had been halted for several months, has now resumed and is fully operational."
A productive meeting with the Executive and Members of the Ogun State Association of Waste Managers (AWAN) has also addressed some previous challenges affecting their work, allowing members to immediately resume their designated responsibilities in waste collection across the state, Mr. Akintunde disclosed.
He urged residents to ensure that their waste is given to the designated waste managers in their neighborhoods and to be properly containerized in front of their homes rather than being discarded haphazardly on roadsides and medians. He cautioned that anyone found violating this directive would face prosecution.
