After three decades as a leading actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is making her debut as a director with the film 'Mother’s Love'. This venture is particularly meaningful for her, as it connects deeply with personal narratives.
The film, 'Mother’s Love', has previously been featured at the Toronto International Film Festival and is set for release in Nigerian cinemas on 6 March 2026, coinciding with Omotola’s landmark 30th anniversary in Nollywood.
The storyline revolves around Adebisi, portrayed by Noray Nehita, a young woman raised in a wealthy household. Her life takes a turn during her NYSC year, as she experiences independence for the first time, developing a bond with Obaro, played by Olumide Oworu, whose lifestyle in the vibrant Makoko community starkly contrasts with her sheltered upbringing. This connection leads to familial conflict as she grapples with her father's strict expectations and the family's hidden truths.
As tensions mount, the plot shifts focus to the mother character, Labake, played by Omotola herself, who has traditionally remained a silent support in the background. She must now summon newfound strength to safeguard her daughter's future.
'Mother’s Love' is a poignant drama that explores themes of classism and familial love, featuring a talented cast including Ifeanyi Kalu in the role of the stern father, along with Lilian Afegbai and Nosa Rex in supporting parts.
The film will debut in cinemas on 6 March 2026.
An official trailer for the movie is available for viewing.
