The Osun State administration under Governor Ademola Adeleke is actively processing the payment of salaries to local government workers, notwithstanding delays in some allowances due to withheld statutory allocations.
In a statement issued from Osogbo, Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, refuted claims that local government salaries are being impacted by the diversion of funds meant for local governments.
Alimi asserted, "Governor Adeleke’s administration is fulfilling its salary commitments through state resources, even while a staggering ₦230 billion in allocations for local governments remains unreleased."
He noted that while base salary payments have not been interrupted, various allowances and other financial benefits have faced delays as these are directly tied to local government allocations.
These withheld funds were initially designated to bolster local administration, facilitate development projects, cover operational expenses, and provide worker benefits.
The commissioner emphasized that the continued salary payments amidst financial hurdles reflect the government’s dedication to the welfare of workers and the financial security of families throughout Osun State.
He also urged citizens to clearly differentiate between core salaries and supplementary benefits to prevent the spread of misinformation.
