The Oyo State Police Command has taken into custody an 18-year-old individual named Basit Tijani from Ilero, linked to a defilement case involving a 17-year-old girl.
Initial police investigations indicate that the suspect is accused of tricking the victim into his residence and forcibly engaging in sexual intercourse with her without her consent. The incident was swiftly reported to the authorities, leading to a rapid police response.
According to a statement from DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, once the report was received, operatives from the Ilero Division quickly responded to the scene. They secured the area, rescued the victim, and transported her to a medical facility for a thorough examination and socio-psychological support, adhering to standard procedures for addressing sexual offenses.
Due to the prompt action, the suspect was apprehended immediately and has reportedly confessed to his actions while cooperating with ongoing investigations. Olayinka also mentioned that to ensure a comprehensive and professional investigation, the Oyo State Police Commissioner, CP Femi Haruna, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Gender Desk. Following the investigation, the suspect will be charged appropriately.
