Nyesom Wike, who serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is committed to reconciling with its dissatisfied members in the aftermath of its National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30.
Wike dismissed the legal challenges posed by the faction led by Tanimu Turaki, asserting that the party has adequate space to embrace all viewpoints.
"There is room for accommodation. The PDP is a very large party. Consider the umbrella; it is sufficiently vast to cover everyone," Wike remarked.
He continued, "I have always maintained that in any organization, grievances will emerge. One cannot expect that in a family of two or three, all members will be pleased, much less in a party with millions of members.
"There will inevitably be some who are dissatisfied. We have committed to meeting with them, understanding their issues, and exploring ways to incorporate their concerns. The most crucial aspect is the overall welfare of the party," he added.
Wike made these remarks after touring the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, which will act as the venue for the convention.
Accompanying him were key party figures, such as Okezie Ikpeazu, the Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee; Mao Ohuabunwa, the Board of Trustees Chairman; and Mohammed Abdulrahman, the Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee.
Wike also confirmed that the party's zoning arrangements have been finalized to facilitate a smooth transition of leadership.
He disclosed that the south has been designated for the presidency, while the national chairmanship has been assigned to the north.
"We have already delineated our positions. Each zone has designated slots. The presidency will be located in the South, while the chairmanship is allocated to the North. We believe that this consensus strategy will facilitate the process.
"For the first time, the PDP is showcasing a unified stance, rather than the usual 'unity list' that often highlights internal rifts. There are no factions at play. Every stakeholder has agreed on the path forward," he stated.
