Authorities in Anambra State have taken into custody a suspected officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) alongside two other individuals for their alleged involvement in a robbery incident in Ogidi, located in the Idemili North Local Government Area.

This information was revealed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, during a statement given to the press in Awka on Sunday, March 22.

Ikenga remarked, "The recent capture of three individuals believed to be armed robbers and cultists, in addition to the seizure of firearms, ammunition, and a stolen petrol tanker during distinct operations, serves as confirmation of our efforts."

According to the police spokesperson, personnel from the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu acted on credible intelligence and initiated a response on March 21 at approximately 1:46 PM, targeting a suspected hideout for criminal activities in Ogidi, where they successfully apprehended the suspects.

"Three individuals were taken into custody: Francis Anene, 46; Emmanuel Obi, 29; and Okoye Chinonso, 35, with one being an alleged active member of a security organization," he added.

Ikenga stated that among the items retrieved from the suspects were two homemade Beretta pistols, four rounds of live 9mm ammunition, and a suspected counterfeit identity card for a security agency.

Preliminary inquiries indicate that the suspects are part of a criminal network believed to be engaged in armed robbery, kidnappings, and instilling fear in the residents of Ogidi and neighboring areas.

Additionally, Ikenga mentioned that these suspects are under investigation for their potential involvement in the murder of the deceased President-General of Ogidi.

In a separate operation conducted in the early hours of March 17, police forces from the Ozubulu Police Division recovered what is suspected to be a stolen white petrol tanker that had been abandoned along the Onitsha/Owerri Expressway.

"The vehicle was discovered without registration plates and with the key still in the ignition, apparently left behind by an unknown person," Ikenga explained.

He also noted that investigations are underway to track down the owner of the tanker and to uncover the circumstances that led to its abandonment.

Ikenga concluded by stating that the command is actively pursuing investigations in both cases to get to the bottom of the events surrounding them.
