A 10-year-old boy in Florida has been taken into custody facing felony charges after reportedly writing a threat on a whiteboard at school, stating his intentions to bring a gun to campus and listing individuals he aimed to harm.
According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, Micah Swinnie, a pupil at Pride Elementary, inscribed a menacing message with permanent marker on a classroom whiteboard, indicating his intention to bring a firearm to the school.
Additionally, he left a note on a desk detailing a 'list of people who I'm gunna k!ll,' identifying three classmates he allegedly intended to target.
As a consequence of these actions, Swinnie has been arrested and charged with making a written threat to kill.
Footage captured his arrest, showing him in handcuffs while being escorted from a police vehicle to the station where he was locked in a cell.
During an interrogation, he reportedly claimed to deputies that he did not genuinely mean the threats.
Parents of the students mentioned in his note have been notified, and Swinnie’s parent confirmed that he does not have access to any guns.
The Sheriff's Office underscores the necessity for open dialogue with children about the severe implications of making threats and the potential legal consequences within the juvenile justice system.
