A police inspector, Otor Ejiga, has tragically lost his life due to an attack by gunmen in Benue State.

Ejiga was stationed at the Mega IDP Camp situated along Gbajimba Road in Makurdi when he was fatally shot while manning an unauthorized roadblock near the camp.

Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that the assailants made off with the officer's Type O6 rifle during the incident that occurred on Thursday.

Following the attack, a patrol team retrieved Ejiga's body, which has been taken to the mortuary at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital for an autopsy.

Sources have revealed that law enforcement agencies are actively working to track down the assailants and recover the stolen weapon.

Additionally, a thorough investigation has been mandated, and the supervising officer has faced a query regarding potential oversights in supervision.
