Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Arsenal successfully made it through their second leg matches in the round of 16, securing advancement to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The favorites did not disappoint, with PSG dominating Chelsea with a 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge, completing an 8-2 aggregate win. Meanwhile, Real Madrid also clinched a late winner against ten-man Manchester City, finishing 2-1 for a commanding 5-1 aggregate result.
Arsenal, in a separate match, managed to beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 in London, with goals from Eberechi Eze and Declan Rice, each contributing to their progression.
Chelsea had aspirations of staging a comeback against the reigning champions PSG, but defensive vulnerabilities allowed PSG to establish a two-goal lead in the first half through goals from Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola, with Senny Mayulu adding another to the tally.
In Manchester, Manchester City, reduced to ten players, fought hard but ultimately fell to a 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid, who have now eliminated the Cityzens from the UCL for three years in a row. Vinicius Jr. netted both goals for Madrid, converting a penalty to open the scoring and sealing the victory with a late tap-in. Despite Erling Haaland equalizing for City, their efforts to break down Real's defense were in vain.
Sporting Lisbon stood out as the only team to complete a comeback on this night, securing a place in the quarter-finals with a resounding 5-0 win against Bodo/Glimt after extra time, attaining a 5-3 aggregate victory. They will now face Arsenal in the next round.
