A 37-year-old individual was saved from a well located in the Oke-Sebe district of Saki after the quick response of the Oyo State Fire Service.
The event occurred during the early hours of Saturday, January 17, 2026, when an emergency call was received at 9:26 a.m. from a caller alongside Alhaji Salmi, informing that a man had fallen into a well and was trapped inside.
Firefighters, under the leadership of Principal Fire Superintendent II (PFS II) Kolade Taiwo, were promptly dispatched to the site.
According to a report from the agency, the rescue unit arrived at the scene at 9:29 a.m. and quickly began their operations using the required rescue gear.
Once on-site, the personnel evaluated the circumstances and initiated a systematic rescue process to extract the individual from the well.
"The fire officers responded swiftly and with professionalism. Utilizing specialized rescue tools, they successfully brought the trapped individual out of the well," stated the agency.
Additionally, Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Ayegbokiki Samuel was present to oversee the entire operation.
Witnesses reported that the man, whose name has not been revealed yet, was discovered alive and aware upon his extraction, leading to cheers and relief from the locals who had gathered nearby.
One resident expressed, “We were all quite frightened when we learned someone had fallen into the well. The fire department arrived swiftly and managed the situation efficiently. It was such a relief to see the man rescued alive.” After the operation, the fire tender returned to the station at 9:55 a.m., remaining on hand for any further emergencies.
The Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chair of the Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Maroof Adebayo Akinwande, praised the responders for their rapid and effective action, calling the mission a testament to the agency's commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
Akinwande emphasized the importance of public safety and advised citizens to take preventive measures to avert accidents, particularly around open wells and other potentially dangerous sites.
"Safety should always be a priority. People need to exercise caution near wells, construction areas, and other perilous locations. However, in the event of an emergency, they shouldn't hesitate to reach out to the fire service without delay," he added.
The fire chief further highlighted the significance of reporting emergencies promptly, stating that timely information could be crucial in life-or-death situations.
He noted that the agency continues to enhance its response capabilities through ongoing training, equipment updates, and strategic personnel placement throughout the state.
"Our personnel are trained to conduct rescue operations and manage various emergencies competently. We are dedicated to saving lives and responding swiftly when our help is needed," he reaffirmed.
Local residents commended the fire service for their rapid intervention, describing the rescue as brave and reassuring.
They urged the government to keep investing in emergency services to bolster their operational effectiveness and ensure the safety of the community.
