A 15-year-old orphan originally from Cross River State was recently discovered sleeping inside an uncompleted building in Rivers State following her alleged eviction by her guardian over a misplaced ₦1,000 note. Prominent human rights advocate Harrison Gwamnishu brought the distressing situation to light, emphasizing the extreme vulnerabilities the young girl faces on the streets.
According to the details shared by the activist, the teenager was located taking refuge in an unfinished structure situated along Amaechi School Road in the Rumuosi area, directly opposite the Rumuagholu Junction.
What led to the teenager's displacement?
Narrating her ordeal, the minor explained that she had been living with a woman for whom she hawked bottled and canned drinks. She recounted that her guardian forced her out of the home and onto the streets after she inadvertently lost ₦1,000 belonging to the business.
How is the public responding to the incident?
Following the discovery, Gwamnishu took to social media to appeal for immediate rescue and rehabilitative support for the vulnerable adolescent.
"Females in Rivers State, please, this 15-year-old girl needs urgent intervention," the activist stated online, detailing her exact location in the Rumuosi neighborhood and urging concerned citizens or child welfare authorities to step in before she suffers further harm.
